This week, the weather was super hot, so we decided to do some activities inside our lovely village hall. Heather put out some thread as well as pasta and beads to see what jewellery the children could make. The task was such a big success and the children loved it.

They were so happy with their jewellery, and making it allowed them to practise their fine motor skills. They put the pasta and beads onto the thread and then coloured the pasta in to create some colourful necklaces.

If you want to have a go of making some jewellery (aka, pasta necklaces) at home, then here’s what you might need and how to do it.

Children around a table making necklaces out of pasta and beads

First, gather your supplies. Think about what can be threaded onto a necklace. This can include colourful beads, buttons, pasta, marshmallows and more. Just be careful with small item that none get put in their mouths.

Then, demonstrate how the items get threaded onto the string and how you have to tie a knot at the end to hold everything in place. Then let them go for it! Point out the colours of certain items and encourage them to mix up their materials to create patterns.

Finally, when they’re finished, add a knot in the end and place the necklace around their neck so they can wear it with pride.

This is a great task to do around Christmas time, as these necklaces can make perfect presents for grandparents or aunties and uncles.

The hot weather made it the perfect day to play with some water. To cool off, we put water into some plastic trays and then dipped our feet in! It worked a treat and offered some relief from the heat.
